WildStar General Article: Revenue Model Revealed

Post by Xryus » Mon Aug 19, 2013 7:35 am

Summary:
59.99 for the Box with 3 7 day passes for friends. 30 Days free game time.
Monthly Subscription simliar to WoW. 14.99 for 1 month. ($13.99 for three months, $12.99 for six, $10.99 for a year)
In game currency like in EVE called "CREDD". It can be sold on the Commodities Exchange for gold. Players can play for free by if they buy from the CE. CREDD will cost 19.99.

No cash shop at launch, but they donÔÇÖt want to close that door completely. For now the only thing extra you can buy will be CREDD. If they add other MTX options, itÔÇÖll only be stuff that wonÔÇÖt screw their customers over. Cosmetic items, convenience things, and so forth.

Their monthly updates will be big meaty story-progressing content that really adds to the world and gives their players a lot to chew on.

Carbine is now hoping for a release in spring of 2014 source http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/08/19 ... elease-wi/

Thanks for the info. I am soooooooo glad there will be a monthly fee. Having a fee and having the ability to earn game time, so to speak, will benefit the community and the Carbine Team. I believe you get what you pay for. It is hard to have a consistent and dedicated community in a FTP game. When gamers pay for something they play the game.

This may make me stick to Rift. Depending on how the game plays to me and how much it costs in game wise to purchase the sub. To date I have never found long term enjoyment (at best ive played 6 months on and off) out of a pay game. Here to hoping WildStar is different.

Just saw this on Facebook. Was all excited to post the info here just to see you were already on top of it. LOL. I'm not sure what to think about a sub. I do think it's good for the game, I just have a personal issue of feeling like I MUST play it because I'm paying for it whereas if I skip a month of GW2, I don't feel guilty, know what I mean? What's y'all's opinions of that. Am I being silly?

In a way I'm glad release has a Q2 2014 target, not just to get the game right, but also to give me plenty of time to decide what I want to do.

I like the sub thing. I will pay for something if it's good. I want access to all content so for me it's good. I do understand about the feelings of needing to play out of wanting to get in your monies worth but if it's a good enough game, you'll play because you want to.
