I doubt the "aid in combat" will be anything substantial.As you can see from this image, the scanbot folds up nice and compact. The bot's hover-tech allows it to follow the Scientist closely, while avoiding obstacles in the terrain as well as providing aid in combat.

This image displays the scanbot's primary function: Scanning new life-forms and analyzing the collected data. You can see the obvious benefits this would provide a Scientist.

The scanbot is also useful in gathering intel from situations that might be harmful to the Scientist.

Im really leaning toward an Explorer...but Scientist and Settler are nice too!
