A change in Raid times?
A change in Raid times?
I figure this is pertinent discussion, as there's multiple reasons to bring this up and I'll be discussing mostly my own personal ones here.
1. Life happens
About a month after HFC came out many of our core members had to either switch roles or they stopped playing for personal reasons
Trocien, our co MT for BRF decided to take a fishing holiday. Raille filled that gap until mini Raille popped out. Soul graciously switched from his rogue to tank on Bonequake. The biggest impact here was a loss of two of our high dps rogues (Raille as Feral for a little was also there) and at least temporarily they had to learn the tanking role in fights they had previously been dps.
Near the end of BRF we also lost Redimage, our once resident All Star Druid, able to heal, tank, or dps at request as he was deployed to military service. While it's a little harder to specify what we lost by losing Redi, his absence was definitely felt by the raid
Zahgore then stepped down from both raid leader and officer as his real life work and family was and is more of a priority for him which is a completely reasonable reason to do so. As much grief we all give him for standing in the stompers, even coining the act as "Pulling a Z", his dps was also very a helpful contribution to the raid as a whole, consistantly performing to a high degree.
2. Burnout
The honorable mention I think deserves some merit is Priests' contributions during all of BRF and early raids of HFC. He started out on his monk tank, switched to try warrior dps, mostly raided on his Hunter kicking ass then graciously swapped and played his paladin and healed amazingly for the first time ever. He was eventually hacked, leveled a boomkin and raided on that and only after at least a month worth of effort did he truly burnout and quit raiding entirely. Thanks a bunch Priest.
Trocien fits this category too, as he did end up leveling both a monk and a warrior to raid with only to be burnt badly by the Apexis grind.
I feel that Mox, a priest healer, was also feeling a bit burnt on normal content.
The next couple people I mention it is only speculation, with the exception of myself though I have not stopped raiding, if has crossed my mind more than once.
I'd like to acknowledge all our great officers who have kept the raids going, but I can't help but feel that everybody in general is a little burnt out to Warlords. Particularly Mokio, our current raid leader. If you aren't a little burnt, you are one tenacious man.
I think it's safe to say that more than one raider is a little burnt out. I won't say any more names, aside from my own and Mokios on the subject but its worth discussing.
3. Holidays
Fall to Winter bring 3 of the most celebrated holidays in North America. Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Halloween has come and gone, but it clearly impacted our raids ability to even form up. Thanksgiving (USA) will definitely block out a raid and Christmas most certainly.
I feel these three topics address most raid issues we have currently that aren't related to makeup.
I feel discussion on solutions can be saved for another forum or even at a guild meeting, but I didn't see a post on this at all and wanted to bring it into the spotlight... Or maybe it's more like being it into the back alley with how much this forum is visited.
Anyways, my own personal reasons aside does anybody else feel that our current raid times should be addressed?

Re: A change in Raid times?
I hope not, I'm picking my schedule for the spring semester at the end of the week and plan to make my raid nights free from class. We're hoping to get a routine by the end of the year so I can raid at least one of the nights, and my goal is still to come back full time in Legion.
If I could I'd still be raiding, as it is now I'm mostly tending my garrison.

Re: A change in Raid times?
Im glad that you bring this up sir...
After last nights chit chat.. and thinking about it all day.. Change is always what is needed.
People are getting burnt out. Tired... loosing interest in this Xpack due to its crazy nature and lack of content. We try and press on... we try and give you what you all what.. we want you all to be truthful and honest cause again we are family here.. we been playing (Most of us) for a very long time together.
So please.. feel free to say whats on ur mind.. we want to make it enjoyable for everyone.

Re: A change in Raid times?
Thanks for the kind words Dhaxis, I appreciate them. I also think you nailed it for me. I miss raiding with you guys, but the burnout for raiding this xpac just became too much. I look forward to Legion and getting back into the swing of things with you all, but I'd be lying if I said the break from dedicated raiding hasn't been a breath of fresh air. It's actually helped me get back to all of the little things that I've enjoyed over the years.
And I agree, the officers have been great.

Re: A change in Raid times?
Yeah, I agree with everything you said Dhaxis. Big props to the leadership group as it's never easy to keep it all together.
I, for one, do not miss raiding at all. I miss the people, but I do not miss the raiding. It's a hard balance especially when you are dedicating your evenings to one specific thing 3/7ths of the week. I'm not sure I'll ever raid again based on how much my life has changed over the past 3 months. The weekends are my only free nights so I just do not see how I could spend my only free nights to WoW any longer.
However, who knows what will happen with Legion. My hope is that it all works out where everyone somehow can make it work with their schedule.

Re: A change in Raid times?
+1 to our leadership.
For me, I would like to clear heroic content before I hang up my branches until the next xpac. Normal is a complete waste of time for me personally.
For whatever reason, be it gear, turnover, schedule or talent, we seem to not be making much progress in this area which is most frustrating to me. I feel that as soon as we actually have started making progress we seem to lose people for whatever reason and have to virtually start over which makes me a sad tree.
I'm for whatever solution that will allow us to achieve this goal before the next xpac without losing those we need to see it through.

Re: A change in Raid times?
Speaking for myself and self only ive been on doing heroics and looking for the raid addons for future raiding. When all that smoke clears ill sign up on forums to raid and maybe fill a dps a spot if need be. Currently working on fire mage rotation and enchants. So if anyone wants to join me runnin heroics and help me out on a fire mage feel free to hit me up and ill hop on tsp. Peace out. CELL.

Re: A change in Raid times?
It's always been about the people I play with rather than what we're doing / not doing. This is a hobby for me and as such I will do whatever I can to make it an enjoyable one for Skye, myself and for my friends. It's a few nights a week, we're casual and I like it that way. I also like to say that as casual we've accomplished a great deal more than some guilds who put in a lot more time. Whatever is needed of me just ask...but I don't Paladin.
On topic of Raid times. We can definitely revisit this. But as they are, I just ask those who still want to progress try to make them so we can keep active. If you are going out Fri and Sat nights to enjoy life that's awesome but we need then to crush it on Tuesday at the very least. We have had some inconsistency lately that we need to avoid so we can just have fun. That's what it's about right? Holidays are a different pace for some with parties etc. But some are trapped in snow and would love to hang out online with folks in raids. So the old saying "can't please everyone" is very true.

Re: A change in Raid times?
I think most of the issue lately is more an end of expansion lack of caring. It happens in every WOW expansion, this is the first one since vanilla where I haven't cancelled my sub.
Like Gilroy I'd really like to finish HC in heroic even if it was a small group of dedicated peeps who wanted to give it their all. Of course I can't volunteer my time for that until I can get back to 3 nights a week raiding.
