Hats and Hair

Post by Xid » Fri May 23, 2014 11:43 pm

In the latest patch, they removed hair when you wear a hat. I assume (I could be wrong) this was done because people were complaining about clipping.

This is how it used to look:

This is how it looks now:

If you look closely, you will also notice that the angle, that the hat sits at, has changed as well.

I love the way this character looks (with the hat/hair) and it was one of the major reasons I was having such a hard time choosing between the Exile and Dominion (if I could have made this character with a Dominion human, it wouldn't have been such a choice). But, as it stands now, I hate how the hat looks. I hope this is changed back or otherwise made so that hair shows without clipping.

This is really too bad

I look at it like this, it's either show the hair and have it clip or disable it. For them to go over every single head piece in game on every single race and gender, with every combination of hairstyle, ear-wear and accessory ( mechari antenna's and jaw blades for example ) and adjust and custom fit all of those possible combinations to every one of those head pieces so it would properly hang out of the headpiece based on the hair style itself would be staggering.

I highly doubt as in 99% sure they will not do that at least at this time as more features are far more pressing and important being only days away from official launch. I'd personally rather have long hair disabled all together under a hat so I could enjoy my new hat I got if the hat itself is what you are trying to show off. Unfortunately things like this tend to fall under the " you can't have your cake and eat it too " category.

I agree with Vox. While I think it would be awesome to be able to see hair under the hats, I do not think it is feasible for them to do so, it is way too much work, even if the game wasn't coming out in less than two weeks. But like you, Xid, I don't mind the clipping, but apparently we are in the minority, or at least the vocal minority.

I think given time and if enough peeps voice their constructive opinions about it in the official forums, it is always possible they might take another sweep at fixing the clipping issues while still allowing hats and hair to be together... But it would take time and effort away from more pressing issues... I believe the recent fix is just a more simple and less time consuming short term solution they went with...

Have to wait and see...

yeah, quick fix for the hair clipping. I do hope they work around the clipping and can bring the hair back. On my sons toon the first time he put that hat on is was super impressive, no clipping at all, a few patches later it was clipping pretty bad, now..no hair..

I didn't check in open beta, but isn't there a setting to turn off head gear? Unless it is really cool, like the t-3 rogue's set in WoW or part of a costume, I never have my "show head gear" on. I worked too hard in character creation to get the face I want, why cover it up.

Under the costume function, you can hide any pieces you want.

I'm looking at the back of my toon's head for the entirety of the game so face options, unless you're an RP'er or a screenshot taking machine, aren't a huge deal, in my opinion. I find it stunning that some people have said they spend two or more hours making their characters, to each their own though. As far as hat issues go on my end, I'll never have any, character is going to be an emulation of me, being shaved/bald, so it works out perfect for me. They'll tweak head and all other gear as clipping and animation issues come up after they have made the game stable and have time to do so later on. Only thing I would want to hide are the guild emblem holo-projections, I couldn't find that option anywhere when I was skimming over the options tabs.

When you open up your character sheet there are little check boxes, I want to say lower right. You click them on and off. There is back, left and right. You can turn them all off, or leave 1 on, 2 on.. You get it . :)

Hmm, never noticed them there. I'll check it out when it goes live.
