There were some significant changes to SS gameplay in yesterday's patch, most of it dealing with surge. Surge cannot be used off GCD now, as well as a couple other proc abilities. I tried it out some on my lower level spellslinger, and IMO it has an overall less smooth feeling to it now.

There were also some changes to healing with increased focus cost when using a surged healing ability.
It's funny I went the exact opposite way I liked the change. For me it was nice not to hit r realize it didn't pick up right away and then have my wildbarge just get stopped. I didn't play around to much trying to stay out of Nexus until launch.

I have almost the same exact problem. Interested in ranged classes and healers. Engineer sounds fun, but can't heal. Medic sounds kinnnnnda neat, but I usually end up disliking melee. Esper and Spellslinger.... I guess I need to try them both some more. Didn't get in much time during beta. I do think I'm leaning toward Esper. I'm not sure I liked the Spellsurge mechanic.

I have this quandary too, plus I like both being a healer and having a cool pet class. I've decided I'm going to do both, at least to level 25. I'm not clear when we have to declare a main. Going this route will be a little slower, but it will be in different zones for at least half of the climb. I will also be able to help out guildies by being able to heal, tank or dps. This also gives me the opportunity to do both Explorer and Scientist, my two favorite paths. So here are my final toons

SchodingersCat
Aurin
Esper
Explorer
Technologist-Rune Hunter

MsDiffEQ
Human
Engineer
Scientist
Weaponsmith - Mining

One of the nice things about Wildstar is the lack of altitis temptation, at least for me. WoW was bad & SWTOR was ridiculous. Here I know I don't want to play a warrior or medic. I made my choice to go Esper and not Spellslinger. Stalker looks like a cool dps class ,but as tank it's too much, a lot like a Blood Death Knight tanking in WoW.

I rolled an Esper to level 20 and healed my first dungeon. I then rolled a Spellslinger and got to level 15. Just in that experience, I am enjoying the Spellslinger more because of the freeform abilities. The Esper's heals did not feel as comfortable to me as the Spellslinger. It is probably my personal preference, but that was one thing I noticed between the two.
I canÔÇÖt exactly fight a war with a big smile on my face.

Well now I'm getting some of that angst. I was reading the medic class forums and there's a lot of complaining in the patch note thread about medic dps at max level in raids. It's not really about which class is first but rather how far the medic class is below the next lowest class. I think that gap was like 20% and the gap from the highest was 50%. If true and not fixed, it really puts a question mark on their raid viability. I was kind of hoping that the gap from highest to lowest would never be greater than 10% in classes.

This is going to change so much though over the course of time as classes are buffed and nerfed. Don't make your decision based on where classes are right now. Play what is fun!

Good to hear, thanks :)
