Apologies and Abject Grovelling...

Post by Rong » Mon May 19, 2014 7:45 pm

When I applied to join Grievance in Wildstar I may have, just possibly, as it were, failed to mention that I am extremely shy.

I meant to join you all last night in the End of Beta event. I leveled a new Medic to 17 (poor, poor 'DoomedToon'), but when I jumped on TeamSpeak most folks were in Council and I didn't know if I'd be intruding if I joined so I set myself AFK instead. Then I went back to PvPing and didn't notice immediately when the Council meeting ended... long story short, I didn't get up the nerve to request an invite to the group (and couldn't see you all in game because apparently I was in a different instance--oh, it's all too pathetic to go on with).

When my nick was called out I failed to notice right away because I was furiously fighting over a mask (which you probably know because--but I'm getting ahead of my story). I am so sorry! But when I tried to reply (after quickly un-muting my microphone at its controller), my voice apparently didn't go through.

So today I watched Azidex's stream to see what I missed (I had to go to sleep before the big finish anyway as I'm EDT and had been up since early morning) and also to find out whether anyone had in fact been able to hear me. I thought it odd that, during the first part (which of course I watched second) I kept hearing combat when everyone was dancing. At some point it started to dawn on me--but it couldn't have been my audio because I had it set to voice activation and my mic was muted, right? Also, if it was my game sound wouldn't it have been constant instead of off-and-on like that?

Well, apparently, yes it was my audio. I had my settings wrong (obviously). I think TS3 was registering my game sounds whenever I hit middle mouse-button, which was quite often because I had it bound to dash. I say "had" because of course today I have adjusted settings and changed (back) to push-to-talk with middle mouse and now I'll just have to get used to dashing with mouse button 4 and bind auto-run to something else. Bother.

Apologies all round to everyone who was forced to mute me in TS or had to go on listening to random combat sounds. (Thanks for finally moving me out of the channel and sorry--again--that I didn't realize when people were addressing me. PvP is every exciting and, also, very loud.) And further apologies for being too shy to get on TS earlier in Beta so that presumably I could have fixed this before it happened.

TL:DR Sorry for chickening out on the guild event and for the sound issue. Please, please don't Exile me (heh, heh ;) )

I know exactly where you are coming from as I myself can be shy. Most of the time I spend more time just listening to people talk rather than taking myself. However, I can assure you everyone in grievance is (from my experience) very nice and easy to get along with. So nothing to be nervous/shy about [THUMBS UP SIGN]

Don't worry about shy. At one point last night we were all so focused on the world boss we were fighting it was dead silent when Steelheart came into our channel and was wondering what was going on. Silence will be golden in this game.

It will be until we all get comfortable enough with the game and what we are doing that we can split attention. I had no issue chatting last night other than the lack of mic. My crappy mic that I did have got broke in the move and I am not sure when I can afford another. :(

I'm the same way for my own reasons, I don't talk much either, but If I'm not set to away I'm always listening in. I was a lone wolf for basically all of my gaming 'career' so I'm not used to being around voice chatters or in a major guild full of people.

Hey, no worries my friend. Things happen, we muted you and I believe later we moved you out of channel, but all is good you found the problem and fixed it yay! So I personally look forward to getting to know you next time you jump in TS3! No worries being shy, I take a little while to warm up myself.

Hey man, we understand when people are quite and kind of shy. I've been in the guild for 2 years now and still quite at times because I tend to be shy too. I can be talkative at times too though.
Someone say "Tank"? Let's go!

No worries hun! I have been in many guilds where we had several that just could not, or did not want to talk on TS for their own reasons. One of our guildiees was super self conscious and just could not speak at all. If that ever happens, or you just don't feel like talking, hop into TS and use the chat text in the channel and someone usually sees the chat and will respond.

We all have different personalities and not everyone has a big mouth and is a chatty-Kathy like me! I don't think anyone is offended and we are happy to have you with us!!!

If it makes you feel any better I leveled a toon on that server for the event, couldn't get teamspeak to work (hadn't used it before), and couldn't find anyone in game, so I just went to sleep :P
I can get you tons of bubblewrap

I understand where you're coming from. When I first joined, I was pretty shy. It can be quite difficult speaking up in those large groups. As others have said, however, Grievance is full of kind and understanding people. I remember back when I joined the Horde guild. Nionya, Thalan, and others were sitting in teamspeak. At first, I was too nervous to ask for a guild invite, but then they started talking about chimichangas. At that moment, I knew everything was right in the world.
