Stepping back from Wildstar

Post by Cercei » Thu May 15, 2014 4:42 pm

Hey guys,

Let me start by saying this isn't a post about stepping back from Grievance (you guys are absolutely awesome!) but after a lot of thinking I have decided ultimately to take a step back from Wildstar as a game that I want to play. In short my reasons are as follows:

1. I am a Verizon FiOS customer out of NY, and even the "fix" that involves me having to go in and alter my host file on the PC isn't working anymore for me to even be able to patch. If I can't patch / download the game (and there are MANY others out there who can't either) then honestly that is pretty much 3 strikes on its own.

2. The way that Carbine handled the name reservation thing absolutely disgusted me. It was poorly designed, had no thought put into it as to the possibility of long standing guilds and communities (like Grievance) losing their guild name, and the "response" from the devs was basically a middle finger considering it was basically "oh you lost your name that your community has used for the past 10+ years? Have some boom boxes cya!"

3. I like hardcore raiding, I really do and that is a lot of what drew me into the whole Wildstar thing. HOWEVER, what I find royally unprofessional is when you have the devs themselves using terms like "filthy casual" in their videos. I don't care if they're joking or not, the "casuals" are who pay the bills in a MMO since they make up 95% of the playerbase normally. Like I said, its one thing for players to have that sort of contempt towards one another, its something completely different when a dev does.

As for me I am gonna explore a couple of different games that I see Grievance is involved with and hook up with one of those chapters I think (I'm taking a hard look at ArcheAge right now). As I said I absolutely LOVE this community, everyone here is awesome and I love what you all stand for. I just can't bring myself to support a game that has the issues that I listed.

Good luck in Wildstar, I know you all will do fantastic!!

sad to hear that. The devs are a bunch of sarcastic types... They joke a lot and yes the name thing was poorly done but I don't think that is in anyway a hit to the game itself. As for the casual thing yes, hardcore is an idea they are taking into raiding, but it doesn't mean you can't raid as a casual. The raids are just more difficult and are very much focused on being difficult / hardcore. I think the team will end up putting together a great product.

The computer problems is unavoidable it seems.

Take care!

I'm glad to hear you aren't leaving us! We have a lot of amazing guilds in all the different games we play, I am sure you will find one that will take you in with open arms :D

I pre ordered Wildstar, but like you am really annoyed with the company right now for the name thing. Can't do anything about the pre order, but I can say I will not be subbing to the game once the 30 days is up...I have been corrupted...by Archeage

This.

I am going to try Wildstar, but this debacle and ridiculous apology are making me rethink my pre-order. I am fully involved in ArcheAge alpha myself right now and can't wait for it to launch.

Stay with Grievance and come to ArcheAge, we have cookies! :)

As much as I hate the way the name thing worked out (didn't get my top 3) I am happy about the way the DEV's handled the situation afterwards. Great communication and a willingness to own it. It's something the SWTOR team could learn alot about.

Sorry to see you go hope your internet get's worked out.

I was the same way. After watching the raid video however I decided to atleast give the 30 day period a shot.... I am still very torn on ArchAge as I havnt really been able to experience it as a sandbox game yet.... We see where 30 days gets me...
