PvE Discussion

Post by Andrus » Tue Mar 18, 2014 8:08 pm

Hello all!

I was wondering if people are interested in having a discussion about how they thing raids and dungeons will pan out with the variety of classes we have in Wildstar. I think about this (a little to much I think) and and would love to get other people opinions on the topic.

How do you see the various class / role combinations playing out?
Do you think there would be a "best healer / tank "combinations?
I SHOOT HEALZ?!?!? WTF?!?!
Healer strength and weaknesses?
Will melee dps get screwed over?
Will I have enough sick time to take off of work at launch?

I see raids being a whole different beast for how classes will turn out. I see a variety of heals spread around the raid such as aura heals to hit all types as well as cones and line heals strategically placed. That being said I can see situations where certain healers will struggle. Espers will be less desirable on highly mobile fights, but prized in a tank and spank type of situation. Spellslingers will be less effective if a fight requires everyone to spread out so their heals can't line up. I kind of feel Medics will become support heals on raids due to how they work.

Melee dps will have some rough patches I imagine, but they seem better equipped to deal with high movement in fights and may due best on the highly mobile encounters. In general I feel melee get the shaft on raid mechanics though, but we'll see.

It's the last week of classes so I can't use my personal leave when Wildstar comes out :(.

Having watched many 20 man raids on twitch I've seen a whole lot of awesomeness.

The raids I was watching had damage and healing add on tracking numbers. A engineer was main tank and ss/esp/medic all doing healing. Depending on the fight each class had a time to shine for both DPs and healing.

I don't think anyone will be disappointed in whatever class/role they choose.

That said, 5 man runs were hit or miss when it comes to group makeup. What I've noticed more than anything is that this game isnt a dps fest. Its all about mechanics.

I'm purposefully trying to avoid watching too many later game play vid's myself... I don't want to spoil the surprise... Even in Beta's i'm not paying attention to any of the vid sequences or quest text, so I can pay attention to it live, when it really counts... I like to experience the content for myself rather then through other folks' spoiler videos...

Even for raids, it's more fun to learn it as a group, rather then look everything up and knowing exactly how it is all supposed to play out before hand... What's the fun in that... I'ld rather learn first hand with guild mates by my side... It's part of the fun, not knowing it all...

It seems these days more MMO's are going for mechanics. Which I like that better because it keeps you on your toes.

Well any l33t dpsers will just have to learn that dead dpsers do no damage. There are rotations, but you're going to have to dodge first and not be so concerned about the perfect button combos. Also a lot of dpsers will do more damage when timing attacks for specific mechanics.

I'm expecting all DPS to have to take 1 or 2 utility abilities in their LAS to stay alive in PVE.
Thankfully its very easy to tweak before a fight.

I can't wait to see how the raiding goes, if it's like the dungeons than mechanics trumps dps every time. Great dps was awesome but if you eat three telegraphs your dead. From what I have seen in the first raid boss your going to have to be hyper aware to do it. Also they beat it with about 6 dps dead, so enrage shouldn't be the main concern. It looks awesome, don't stand in the red, and more dots! LOL
