Wildstar - Query :)

Post by volvagia » Sat Aug 09, 2014 8:17 pm

Hello Everyone ! :)

I just wanted to get your opinion as players of Wildstar is all.

Basically I am a former WoW player, I particularly loved vanilla. Over the past few years though sadly I have had to put a hold on my gaming due to completing an MSc, work and other things. But now I have a new computer due to arrive in the next few days and I want to get back into gaming in the next week or so. I hear great things of Wildstar alright so I am thinking of that as a good game to get lost in :)

This guild looked very active and fun based on what I seen in the forums so thought I would ask here about Wildstar.

Basically what I am curious about is how does this fare when compared to vanilla WoW? Also, how serious are players on this? Like, is there a nice mix of casual / serious players ? :)

Thanks for any information!
Oh and great looking guild you have here hehe, reminds me of my old WoW guild. Having a good guild is great hehe :)

It gets harder than Vanilla wow. As I've last checked no guilds have killed any bosses in the 40 man raids and the raid attunement quest has challenged and slowed down many would-be raiders. You'll find your share of casual players who are laid back, but there is also an elitist vibe within the game that can be a turnoff (fortunately Grievance is much more friendly).

Well the first boss in the 40 man got world firsted last night to give you a feel at how tough progression is, 2 months after release before the first boss dies.

The gameplay is the key in this game and I wonder if I'll ever be able to play an MMO that isn't as movement oriented again.

A majority of the Leveling experience is what you would expect from most MMO's out there, to include WoW... Lots of quests which can easily be solo'd with some 2 to 5 man group quests sprinkled throughout each zone... A majority of the general folks you run into while leveling tend to be friendly with a few exceptions here and there... The end-game content is typical of most MMO's, you have Daily quests for Rep and so on, with Higher Difficulty versions of the Adventures and Dungeons, along with a rather involved and sometimes difficult Raid Attunement system...

The gameplay can seem a bit daunting once you hit the first instanced Adventure, as the Telegraph focused combat system brings a unique and sometimes stressful feel to the MMO... But once you experience it and get used to how it works, it's not all that bad...

The game is designed around a somewhat hidden tier system of difficulty... Beyond your normal quests you start off with Shiphands (mini-adventures for 1 or more folks), which are designed to prepare you for Adventures (story driven mini-dungeons of varying lengths and difficulty for groups of 5 players), which prepare you for Dungeons (your typical instanced dungeon runs with a higher degree of mob difficulty and more complex boss mechanics than Adventures for groups of 5 players)... Once you've reached level 50, you are then able to do Veteran Versions of all the Adventures and Dungeons, which are actually required for Attunement if you plan to Raid... Veteran content tends to be more difficult, with stricter optional requirements and even more boss mechanics, with the Veteran Adventures being a preparation for Veteran Dungeons which in turn are preparing you for Raid's, which are Hardcore... It can sometimes feel like Veteran Dungeons are raid level difficulty when compared to other typical MMORPG's, until you get used to them...

Pug's can be just like in any MMO, sometimes you get your bad pugs, and sometimes you get your good ones... it's a bit random, but Guild Groups are always friendly and less stressful, especially if you're in TeamSpeak...

With the system as it is now, I agree with Raille, you do have your elitist's out there and hard-core min-max folks, but we don't put up with shenanigans in our guild, so you should rarely if ever run into issues within our own ranks... On the Dominion side we have a mix of casual and more dedicated players, with folks on usually first thing in the morning and in the evenings primarily, with a few folks on during the weekday afternoons... Friday evenings and Sunday afternoon-evenings seem to be our peak times, but it tends to vary through out most days during daylight hours... On the Exile side, just based off the names I see in their TeamSpeak channel, they seem to be busy most of the day and super busy in the evenings...

As a WoW and Old Republic veteran I'm really enjoying it. I agree with everything above and will add a couple of things.

I find the combat system really engaging due to it being so movement and telegraph oriented - much more so than the other two MMOs I mentioned. Healing is a lot more fun because it's a lot more active than just click and cast rotations. The DPS side is also quite a bit more enjoyable for me. The combat just feels a lot more dynamic.

To me the movement and telegraph basis of combat makes PVP more fun as well. There are still a few issues for them to work out with PVP balance but they'd already made significant improvements to it, just in the first 6 weeks the game was open.

I also just enjoy the content, and I am by no means a lore maximilist or anything. I like that some of the adventures and dungeons have a choose-your-own-adventure sort of mechanic to them and that along with boss beat-downs they can include some group puzzle-solving, tower defense and the like. It just feels like there's more variety to it because there's more to the content than just choreographed slug-fests.

I also really like the overall tone of the game. It's snarky and even a bit rude sometimes.
