A pic, albeit an older one, stated to be of the Scientist's "scanbot":

As you can see from this image, the scanbot folds up nice and compact. The bot's hover-tech allows it to follow the Scientist closely, while avoiding obstacles in the terrain as well as providing aid in combat.
I doubt the "aid in combat" will be anything substantial. :)

This image displays the scanbot's primary function: Scanning new life-forms and analyzing the collected data. You can see the obvious benefits this would provide a Scientist.

The scanbot is also useful in gathering intel from situations that might be harmful to the Scientist.

Im really leaning toward an Explorer...but Scientist and Settler are nice too!

While I'm not overly impressed with it, Massively did post a new article today covering Paths. If you're a completionist like me, you'll probably at least skim it... :P
