extreme and strange lag. advice sought.....

Last night I had a really bad case of the lags. All I could do was autopath to things. Using any ability, or typing text into chat was met with a full 5 second delay. The strange part is that it didnt seem to affect my movement, and there was very little 'stuttering'.
As a little background, my router has the game ports forewarded to my machine, like 30001udp-33something udp. Ports are not forewarded to my wifes machine, and she was attempting to play at the same time.
Does anyone know of this?
