Do you all have a feel for which classes are needed but not played much? I was leaning towards BM or KFM because I think they are the most tanky... and given my wife and I will Duo or party everything I figured it would be good to be a tanky class.

I have gone through this exact same thing I have watched probably 100 videos analyzing BM and KFM. In the end I will have both bug I was trying to pick a main. The choice comes down to timed blocks with more defensive mobility vs stringer block with less mobility. I think BM has the stronger block for high ping and less anticipatory players. the B M block is more forgiving and reactive. The, KFM block is more proactive and you really need to know what is coming at you. KFM has more dodges and iframes at 45 but this evens out at 50.

In DPS BM is bursts while KFM us sustained. KFM is also pigeon holed into fewer so skills for DPS (with a pretty strict rotation) in PvE because they are unable to CC boss like they can to other players in PvP. BM has a little more versatility but their DPS comes from draw stance. You want to be in draw stance with your lightning abilities and much as possible while ke ping flock of blades up.

I ended up focusing on KFM as a main dye to the fact that I want to play soul fighter and their play styles are similar. I also like the mobility of KFM. But for soloing BM was way stronger the block allows you to block multiple enemies at the same time making soloing, espially range mobs, much easier than KFM who needs to rely on perfectly timed counters and their iframes. I soloed everything to 43 -tomb of exiles on my BM with little issue. There were encounters I could not solo (at same level) with KFM.

After all this research it really does come down to what you like playing most. If you put in the time with the class you will be able to do what you need on it. I hated hearing that at first as well. But I've seen that every class can solo some are easier than others but you have to know your class and how to change your talents for the encounter. There is no universal build that will get you through everything (sadly), but it is easy to change skills prior to each encounter. Also pretty much every person who play has multiple characters all maxed with hongmoon skills (yes I know they've had 3 years to do so). But the point is you just need to figure out what you are going to level first.

If you are going to level with you wife I would pick the class that synergizes with her class best (stuns, knock downs,etc.). What is your wife planning on playing? You could also okay one with your wife and the other if you are playing solo. Leveling doesn't take very long in their game.

If you have any more wyestions about BM and KFM. Just ask, as I've said I've done a ton of research.

I'm Dark's wife, I plan to play Destroyer and Summoner as my first two characters. I had a great time playing both in the beta. Not sure if Summoner has particular synergy with other classes but Destroyer sure seems to be good with other people. Picking up something and stabbing it repeatedly with your weapon while gaining health back is so satisfying. Getting excited to start!

Sweet. My recommendation in this case, if Dark wants to "tank" (though I have see destroyers tank), is to pair the KFM and destroyer KFM can get some dmg bonuses to grabbed enemies, and the ability to chain stuns and knockdowns between the two can be great. I would pair the BM with summoner, the summoner ability to root and Burst along with BM burst can be scary, plus the BM blocking would provide more opportunities for AoE Killing with the summoner

But saying that, and to contradict everything I just said, you can spec each class to synergize with each other, if you prefer a different combination. There are just so many options. KFM and Destroyer are more single target orient, while I believe BM and summoner can spec to be more effective with AoE (than KFM and DES). I have not played summoner past level 5 so I am not very aware of all of their skills and abilities I just know what I have seen from PvP (vids and arenas) and playing with them in Dungeons. Someone else may better be able to spea to summoner synergies.

The Summoner is a "jack of all trades" type of class specializing in group support. However, a well played Summoner is a valuable asset to any group no matter the size. Depending on spec you can go group heals or group focus regen. You have AOE skills that deflect all types of ranged attack. You can spec for group stealth upon hit. If you spec to have your cat "tank" you can solo almost everything outside of same level epic(purple) dungeons. There are small windows of opportunity for burst DPS usually best to focus on sustained dmg so you have focus points for your support abilities.

So there is a rough rundown on Summoner: Group support, DPS, substitute tank

Would be glad to talk more about classes if anyone is interested :)

I'm going FM (main) with an alt of either BD or assassin. And of course I'll roll a warlock when it comes state-side. :D

KFM is really ping dependent so unless you have 70ms and lower I guess you are good to go..
