SpellSlinger Shout out
SpellSlinger Shout out
Hey there future slingers! Thought I would start a thread for the Grievance SpellSlingers to drop in for introductions and talk anything SpellSlinger related. I notice there is more flaming and slinging of mud rather than spells on the Wildstar forums now that there are more folks locked into the lvl 25 cap and just finding their way are posting newbie questions or questions the minority of leet hardcore closed beta testers deem as unworthy of a helpful response. There are still plenty of helpful slingers on the board but some Grievance folks new to the game may avoid asking questions or getting info they need due to the responses of a few obnoxious bad seeds.
That being said I'm no expert by any means but I was around for the last few months of closed beta and play ALOT during the beta weekends and might be able to answer some questions leading up to launch and be able to pass on some info about the higher level areas and solo game. I purposely avoided dungeons and adventures so I could experience it with the grievance exile crew and have lots of fresh content to experience for the first time at launch.
I'm on the Nexus server for beta and i'm currently running a level 47 Aurin Dps SS, name is Savanah (from the dark tower series character.) In RL i'm a guy but I wanted to play an Aurin after seeing the SS dev diary and liked the Aurin race but the female Aurin's look better than the male imo so I have a female toon and will be rolling a female Aurin SS for live. just thought I would mention that to avoid TeamSpeak confusion when I jump into chat. On live I will be trying to reserve the name Tempted. If any of you are trying out the beta weekends on Nexus feel free to drop Savanah a line, I'm happy to lend a hand wherever I can as I don't really wanna explore the Grimvault zone until live.
I may roll a new SpellSlinger for the May beta weekends and go healer for some practice and get used to the Wildstar Mechanics in a group setting but I don't wanna burn out doing the low level content twice before launch. I haven't researched the mentoring system at all but if I can mentor down I'll gladly group up and practice my healing LAS for this last month of beta.

Re: SpellSlinger Shout out
Howdy there. I wanted to share a couple of threads for any interested spellslingers. I spent most of my beta between an engineer and a medic (got medic to 50), but recently have started to consider a spellslinger for a main at launch. So I started looking around for good resources and found the following threads. They provide a good base for anyone looking into the class, both healing and dps.
Same person wrote both healing guides:
Healing: http://www.2arcgaming.com/index.php?/to ... g-started/
Healing advanced: http://www.2arcgaming.com/index.php?/to ... -beginner/
DPS: http://www.2arcgaming.com/index.php?/to ... llslinger/

Re: SpellSlinger Shout out
These guides look super useful. Im really going to dig into them, thanks both of you for putting this together.
Ive been playing around with medic, esper and spellslinger on the beta weekend. After much thought im thinking it's going to be rolling an aurin spellslinger too.
I've been trying to practice using the pvp healing side of things to save the content for launch.
One of my big questions is how the healing scales with the upper level tiered powers. My impression was slinger could heal a single person from distances well vs the good group but close range medic heals. Aside from the charge heal which still takes some range/aiming. Does it get a bit more powerful or useful for multiple people as it goes?
As for dps side im really excited about the chance to still do decent dps! Ive experimented with some builds where I could do a reasonable mix of both with a 40:60 split dps:heals still adding up to a competitive total. What are people finding are the most effective dps powers if you're considering a blended build?

Re: SpellSlinger Shout out
I havent really touched the healing abilities yet so i have been running with Quickdraw wild barrage true shot assassinate arcane shock flash freeze and gate. I only spell surge WB and TS. I've only been doing solo content to date and I will be focusing on tiering up WB and TS for the cool down reduction to TS and the extra charge to TS. Even before I have anything to T8 this build has been ripping through groups of mobs with excellent potential to avoid damage and get Moo's. I rarely need to use arcane shock. So you could easily substitute a heal there. If you give up Assassinate in favour of a heal in group situations you have a pretty balanced build between assault/support/utility. In PvP this might not be the best build as TS has a very long but thin telegraph. Depending on your primary role with a balanced build this might not work for you though. If you primarily end up surging your healsThe dps will take a significant hit without surging WB and TS.
Re: SpellSlinger Shout out
Keep in mind, if you've been playing in the last 2 beta weekends with Wild Barrage it's currently bugged and doing obscene damage. It's a known bug and will be addressed, but not sure if it will be for this upcoming weekend.

Re: SpellSlinger Shout out
Hey guys, thanks for the links. Spellslinger healing is something I want to try on an alt for later.

Re: SpellSlinger Shout out
I read bout the bug after beta ended this past weekend. The post indicated that if Wild barrage was fired when at full Surge it would use 75% of your surge and effectively cast Wild Barrage 3x. I started using this build, at least the dps portion due to some theory crafting and posts on the Wildstar Forums on the Easter Weekend beta. I think despite the bug it is a solid dps rotation/build. I'm not sure I was even experiencing the bug or even accidentally getting its benefits as my rotation has always been QD x2>Flash freeze>Surge>TS while backing away to max distance>WB>surge off>assassinate to finish off. My rationale being when I get WB to T8 using TS first will put it on CD and wild barrage next will give TS the CD bonus for next rotation.
I never saw my Surge drop below 50%. Unless the huge damage increase is happening independent of the triple surge depletion described in the bug. I never checked combat logs. I sure hope thats not the case or I will be one sad slinger. That may explain why I was able to go from level 41 to 47 in this past weekend just soloing quests and grinding amps though.....

Re: SpellSlinger Shout out
I'll probably give healing a try this weekend on one of the beginner dungeons.
