With today's NDA drop, several sites have discussed the renown system..

in a nutshell:
"Renown is earned through social gaming, basically. Anything you do in a group or with a friend earns you what is called renown. Renown is a form of currency that players can use to buy objects for their house. If social gaming isn't really your thing, than you might take issue with its current iteration. But, it's likely that Carbine will add more ways to earn renown so that non-social gamers aren't punished."

We need to try to do as much as possible as a group in order to maximize our renown gains!

Yes, by default...by simply existing, we will have many much renown! LOL!

Because let's be honest. While I have played alone in MMO's. these games shine when your in a guild that cares and likes to play together. I play all sorts of games but the most fun ive ever had is in an MMO with a good guild. Now we just get rewarded to play the way these games should be played!!!

Exactly my point! Very awesome!

Interesting idea but they will have to give loners something, i mean it isn't fair if someone that doesn't know anyone or doesn't have the time for groups to be obstructed from building their house.

Oh they won't be obstructed whatsoever, it's just that those who are social may get more stuff in less time.
The trick is to find these loners and bring them into the fold.
A lot of loners are that due to bad experiences with past guilds or PUG groups. I think if they found a great group of people to play with, they'd hate to play the game alone.
Plus, what's a loner going to do if dungeons or raids offer some awesome housing items?

With all that said...the devs have stated that there will be some things for the solo players out there. Although over all the game is geared toward the hardcore gamer and the social aspects of the game.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this. Finally a game that ecourages grouping and guilding. Let's not forget social circles too. The loners will have a hard time playing alone unless they just try really hard not to play with people.

Just to add on to this thread. Renown is also used to buy gear and to pay for the initial forming of a guild and other associated items. It is not only acquired by social group with people you come to know, for the solo players it can be earned throught the LFG tool and PVP.
