Wishful thinking about a pet class

I know people don't generally like pet classes, or at least that seems to be the general consensus I've seen in various forums, and the few times it was brought up, the immediate reprisal was that it wouldn't likely work in regards to Wildstar mechanics.
So that got me thinking. How "would" it work if they added one in? I kinda doubt they'll actually make one, but I think I did actually come up with something that would not only work, but also improve on the mechanics that have been less popular in other games.
One of the main things people usually dislike is the lack of control of AI pets right? If it dies you lose utility/dps right? If it takes time to get to the target, or it paths funny, it annoys you right? So why not just make the character ride it into battle then?
And before you say, "hold on to yer britches there fella, that's OP," I'm just thinking out how it could work. Maybe your character actually has no attacks, defenses, things like that. All of his abilities could be entirely what he makes the pet do. Suddenly, you are the one in control, there is no pathing issue, no divided dps, nothing like that.
Maybe you have a few attacks but only attacks from the back of the pet. and the rest are modular based on what pet you're riding? Possible utility? Claws, dragon breath, pounces, farts, whatever really. I imagine it wouldn't be like a terribly difficult thing to design if some of the basic attacks really pretty much did the same thing. The major complaints about pet classes could be managed at least then. Your pet could dodge around the same way your own character could, just with you on it's back. Maybe the pet carries me around in a sling, like a baby? Maybe, I tie myself to the top of it's head and direct it by pulling it's ears? I don't know, but it's fun to think about. If the character becomes too big and unwieldy there could easily be some sort of "personalized mobile relativistic dimensional space bubble" invented. "For keeping your pets odors away from friends and family! Also, may temporarily shrink contents." - in fine print.
I was sort of imaging your little character riding around like on a bucking bronco on <insert random alien creature here> and it seemed to me that would be interesting. Or take the Mechromancer from Borderlands 2. You've seen the pic with the little girl riding around on the giant robot right? Could be funny. Heck, could be an Engineer?

[EDIT] See how she's riding on it in the picture? That's not how she plays in game, but it's what got me thinking.
The other thought I had would be some sort of amalgamation of pet and master, like a werewolf, but combining from two different creatures? This seems far less likely and I couldn't imagine a way that would really fit in Wildstar at all, but it would still give you one character whose abilities weren't split that you had full control over. They'd probably need whole new race to make that sort of thing happen. Like a race of leech people or parasite people aliens or something.
Anywho, I'm just daydreaming. Imagining up ideas when there's not enough real news. What do you guys think?
