Yeah you're right, but I still think it's doable. I'm sure they could find ways to make it work: playing with the tank's range, tweaking the way bosses' mechanics work, I don't know.

Let's look at it from a different angle, how can someone exploit the fact that he is a range tank ?
You could completely avoid bosses' auto attacks. But is there any ? So far all we are seeing is telegraphs. And again simple mechanic adjustments could fix this. ( like all bosses have mini-range attacks that are considered melee. I think It'd be dumb honestly, cause the 'range' aspect of the tank would really just be cosmetic at that point tough.. )

I'm really having a hard time figuring this out, I guess that's why I'm terribad at tanking and I prefer healing...

Ranged DPS/Tank vs Ranged DPS/Ranged Tank.

When engineers tank, they tank melee. When they DPS, they are ranged DPS.

What would you think about that?

Yeah that would be the obvious solution, but the 'ranged tank' speculation came form the idea that the warrior would be the standard mitigation tank, the stalker would be the avoidance/evasion tank and the final tanking class would introduce some kind of new mechanics.

If the last class is an 'engineer', i could also imagine ranged tanking by them having to throw up stuff near the boss and tanking that way. So basically stay at range yourself, but throw up robots and stuff that are linked with you that are near the boss.
In raids i'd imagine they make sure you need at least one tank of each class. Would think the ranged tank very good at picking up adds for instance.
(as for pvp, dunno and tbh don't really care :D)

I like that idea, but I think it'd be a nightmare to balance :O

It'd also be a nightmare taking all the complicated telegraphs into account.

How do you evade them while taking care of your pets at the same time?

Oh god, that's a class for our younger members... you know, the ones that still have a modicum of reflexes and reaction time!
