Meanjoe - Exiles

Hi everyone!

My name is Brian, I'm a 42 year old biology professor that lives in San Antonio, TX. Worked in brain research before joining the academic ranks. I'm married with a 14 year old daughter and 11 year old son. I just enjoy life in general and am willing to try almost anything.

Been playing most major MMOs since DAoC and spent most of that time in a smallish hardcore PvP oriented family/friend guild that often allied with larger guilds for the PvE side of things. With new games and getting older we still keep in touch, but don't game together as often. This is why I'm looking for a new family to join. Been a leader and a follower, I'm fine with either. I like to raid and pvp fairly equally - been pretty hardcore in both, but I've left the hardcore years behind me. I want to relax, enjoy the game and eventually take on some fun challenges together.

My personality is laid back and accepting - the antithesis of my character's name. Life's too short to judge others and get worked up over minor things. I'm competitive, so I do like to win :) , but losing with a fun team is better than winning with people I don't like.

Look forward to gaming with all of you!

Welcome to the family, Brian! Glad you decided to join us!

San Antonio, what a beautiful city, a friend and I visited there a few years ago. We had such a great time.

Your studies interest me. My father, who was a mechanical design Engineer, was electrocuted at work when I was a child. The current went into his arm, and out of the side of his head that happened to be resting on a metal pole. He has since had a seizure disorder, the damage was front temperal lobe so he has some issues with mood. Short term memory loss as well. He is still a brilliant man, he just can not remember what he ate for breakfast. :) My family had to deal with this for as long as I can remember, all I know is humor was the way we went. He now is staying with my husband and I since mom had an early retirement, and he spends his days playing Minecraft and the SWGemu. :) Wow, there is a bit of my life story hehe!

Anyway...

:( , how bad is his short term memory loss? Some folks can only remember a few seconds of information before losing it and they are unable to make new long term memories. Usually it indicates damage to the hippocampus (deep temporal lobe area). Sounds like he still can make some new memories since he can play games. I'd guess he has small seizures that short circuit his memory pathway and interrupt some of those memories. Glad you guys were able to use humor to cope :) ! Thanks for sharing!

I have teamspeak and I'll be sure to get on this weekend to chat while gaming!

If he is doing something repetitive he can retain pretty well.. :) So with gaming, he is all thumbs at first, but he keeps at it to learn it, then does great! Yes on the small seizure, we have not seen a grand mal in a long time. Hopefully it stays that way :)

Look forward to seeing you on TS!
